Volume XX - Number 25

You Are Rich if....
K E N   W I L L I S

David on numerous occasions praised God for his greatness, majesty, power, and mercy-just read some of the Psalms. In other places we read of him extolling the Lord and offering his thanksgiving. "The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation... Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, 0 LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name. He is the tower of salvation for his king: and showeth mercy to his anointed, unto David, and to his seed for evermore (2 Sam 22:47, 50-51).

When we begin to count our blessings we can see how much for which we ought to give thanks. An article of unknown authorship appeared in the bulletin from Crieve Hall recently which helps us to take inventory of our blessings.

You Are Rich. . .

  • If you own just one Bible, you are abundantly blessed. One third of the world does not have access to even one.

  • If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.

  • If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 500 million people in this world.

  • If you attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest or torture or death, you are more blessed than almost three billion people of the world.

  • If you have food in your refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof over your head and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world.

  • If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

  • If your parents are still married and alive, you are very rare, even in the United States.

  • If you hold up your head with a smile on your face and are truly thankful, you are blessed because you can offer God's healing touch.

  • If you prayed yesterday and today, you are in the minority because you believe in God's willingness to hear and answer prayer.

  • If you believe in Jesus as the Son of God, you are part of a very small minority of the world.

  • If you can read this message, you are more blessed than over two billion people in the world that cannot read anything at all.

"It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, 0 most High: To show forth thy loving kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night" (Psalms 92:1-2).

W
e offer our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Hazel Blaylock (the daughter of Lillian Chambers and the sister of Annie and Carl Chambers) who passed away this past Monday, June 12, at her home in Tennessee. Funeral services were held in Tennessee on Wednesday evening and a memorial service was held here at Orange Street on Friday afternoon.

Welcome!
We are pleased to welcome sister Juanita Hilborn who placed membership with us here at Orange Street last Sunday. We will run the directory information when it is available to us.

Our children are not wholly dependent upon us for what they become, but we are wholly responsible to God for what we influence them to become. Have the whole family in worship and bible study this week.

Tonight
Don't forget that we meet for prayer in classroom 3, at 5:30 each Sunday afternoon and our youngsters meet at 5:40 for story and songs in the auditorium. Please try to participate.
