Volume XXI - Number 17

Mondays Are Killing Us
EDWARD L. ANDERSON

Not too long ago, while visiting in a hospital, I ran into a friend from college days. After the usual greetings, the conversation turned to our jobs. He is a businessman who had contact with church members on a regular basis. When I told him I was still preaching, he urged me to do more preaching on behavior, conduct, and Christian living. Whether the line was original with him, I do not know, but, it has stuck with me, "Mondays are killing us!"

Too many church members are forgetting on Monday what they heard on Sunday! They refuse to practice on Monday what was preached on Sunday. Mondays living does not reflect Sundays sermon! Sunday piety is not a substitute for Monday unrighteousness! Sundays songs are crucified by Mondays sins! Sundays saints are too often Mondays sinners!

Jesus said, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." (Luke 9:23) The word is DAILY, not weekly. The religion of Christ is a daily religion. If Sundays religion doesn't impact Mondays living, then Sundays religion is not New Testament Christianity.

The Lord said his disciples were to be "the salt of the earth" and "the light of the world." Where is the salt and the light on Monday? Mondays "bushels" of dishonesty, filthy language, lustful living and such will surely hide Sundays light. Ungodly living Monday to Saturday makes Sundays "light" repulsive to people and an abomination to God!

God's words are not just pleasing platitudes for Sundays sermon. They are priceless, eternal principles designed to change the heart, mold the character, alter the behavior and prepare the soul for eternity.

Once-a-week saints are always weak saints! Let us practice every day what we preach and teach on Sunday for "Mondays Are Killing us!"
