Volume XXI - Number 22

The Problem is: SIN!
K E N    W I L L I S

OF the problems facing man in this day and age, none is greater than the problem of sin. In a book I bought at a second-hand store in St. Petersburg a while back, is this powerful statement. "One of the most significant differences between us and our spiritual forefathers is this: they took sin seriously; we do not. They prayed over it; we jest about it. They regarded it as the open and crowded road to hell; we regard it as an unfortunate religious term for a pathological condition. They thought the power of God was the only force strong enough to cope with it; we counsel disturbed persons to watch their diet, their exercise, their rest, and to try not to think about the matters that upset and disturb them."

When you check into a motel there is a little card usually hanging on the inside door knob. One side of the card reads, "DO NOT DISTURB." Personally, I think it is time that more folk become disturbed. Disturb is defined as: To break up or destroy the tranquillity or settled state of, to interfere with; interrupt; to inconvenience. Its time that some have their "settled state of " lethargy challenged. That they give more thought to the fact that this life is not all there is. That a good thriving economy will not insulate one from the fact of standing before the bar of God's judgment to give account of the deeds done in the body. What about you? Are you disturbed that you have never rendered obedience to the Gospel of Christ? That you have become a backslider, and are not serving God with a pure heart? What about those lost friends and relatives, church member, are you disturbed about their condition? Disturbed enough that in the future you will make a concerted effort to help them gain deliverance from sin. Let's take sin seriously, and our Christian responsibilities.

AM SERMON:
"Jesus Can Mend A Broken Life"
(Luke 19:1-10)
PM SERMON:
"The Good Confession"
(1 Timothy 6:11-16)

Our hearts go out in deepest sympathy to the family and friends of our brother Charley Dupree, who passed away this past Thursday at Lakeland Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. It is our prayer that God will give Betty and her family, the strength and comfort that only He can provide during this time of loss and sorrow. Funeral services are planned for this afternoon at 2:00 here at Orange Street.

Restored
We rejoice, along with the angels in Heaven, in the repentance of brother Bobby Wells this past Wednesday evening. May God provide courage and strength to overcome the trials and temptations in his life. Keep Bobby in your daily prayers.
