DAD: We Need You!!
Bob Bauer

Ten years ago David Popenoe wrote an article entitled "A World Without Fathers." He gave some rather depressing statistics then: In just three decades, from 1960-1990, the percentage of children living apart for their biological father has more than doubled, from 17% to 36%. It is now estimated that by the turn of the century, 50% of all American children may go to bed at night without being able to speak to their father. In a recent article entitled "Fathering Fatherless America" Dr. Scott J. Larson reports: One in two children now grow up without a father in the United States, and in our inner cities only one in five children live with their father. A whole new mission field has developed in America: Fathering fatherless kids. How critical is it for a father to be in the home? In families where both the mother and father were actively involved with their religion 72% of their children attended services when adults. If only the mother was active, only 15% attended, but if only the father was active 55% of their children attended when adults. In a family where the father is present, daughters are 42% less likely to make their sexual debut before the age of 16. Fathers, in the home, are examples to both sons and daughters on how a man is to treat a woman and a husband - his wife.

Dads, be aware of the influence you are having in the home. Be an example of godliness, kindness, humility. Don't be afraid of saying your sorry if you have made an error. Your doing these things will go far in rearing your children properly.

Ladies' Group
Ghana Mission Fund Report

Here is some exciting news from Brother Ted Wheeler. He informs me that soon after we sent the monies from our Ghana Fund to him, he transferred the funds on over to Ghana and the well-drilling was begun immediately. A well has been drilled in a community around Yendi and he reports that 70 gallons of safe, clean drinking water is being produced per minute at this time. When he visits there in July he plans to take pictures of the well and to preach the gospel there. At this time there is no congregation of the Lord's people there and perhaps the drilling of the well will soften the hearts of the villagers and many will come to the Lord. They are working on the funds for the drilling of a second well to hopefully be done while he is there.

He also says that he has more than a thousand dollars worth of medical supplies (first aid, children's vitamins, oral and pediatric antibiotics, etc.) and is making arrangements to conduct two mobile clinics while he is in that area in July.

Ladies, through our combined efforts we have supplied many "cups of cold water" (Matt. 10:42) and have given "drink to the thirsty" (Matt. 25:35). I am sure all of you are humbled by this report, as I am, and feel that surely we must keep up this good work to an even greater extent than we already have.

WE STILL NEED HOSTS!

If you have never hosted a dinner and would like to or if it's been a while since you've hosted, now is the time to sign up. These are held on the 2nd Saturday night of each month. If interested, please see Tammi Paye to schedule the month you'd like to host.

If you have never signed up to attend a dinner now is the time to add your name to the pool of guests. Remember: You are not required to host a dinner to participate.

Human learning, higher education, and higher and higher academic degrees may exalt the wisdom of man - however - man's spiritual rank before God is not determined by his intellectual development or by the amount of his formal schooling.

Response
Brother Frank Nabors came forward this past Sunday evening confessing a wrong in his life and asking for the prayers of the congregation on his behalf. We are all strengthened and thankful for Frank's courage and his determination to do right in God's sight.
