What
is Your Attitude Toward Immodesty?
We are Christians, loving and serving God with all our
hearts and yet we still live and work in the world, where non-Christian
values are prevalent. In Romans 12:1-2 we are told "be not conformed
to the world". John pleads with us to "love not the world, neither
the things which are in the world" (I John 2:15). Christians can
live in the world without surrendering to the world or forsaking Christ.
While it is not the policy of this Eldership to dictate a dress code at
our worship, Paul instructs us in I Timothy 2:9-10 to adorn ourselves
in "modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety." If we
do this, there will be no doubt that we belong to God, not the world.
What is your attitude toward immodesty? Do you dress in clothing that
is too tight, too thin, too low at the neck, too short or too casual?
Sometimes our children's pleas may be "well everyone
else is wearing it". We must not let the influence of the world dictate
the way we dress. As Christian parents let us remind ourselves often that
a child learns the most from our attitude and our example. As Christians,
we can have an influence on society by the way we dress. Let us be modest
at worship and in the world.

So
Near, Yet So Far
Darrell Beard
The Mexican Bureau
of Tourism ran a series of promotional spots, using the catchy phrase,
"You are so near to being so far away." Even though Mexico is so near
to our country, it does seem like a country far away. They have a different
kind of government, speak a different language, their appearance is different,
and thy have different customs.
Others have had the experience of being so near, yet
so far. Moses was not allowed to enter the land that God had promised
the Israelites long ago. He was allowed to go up into Mt. Nebo and look
across the Jordan River into Canaan. For Moses, the "land flowing with
milk and honey" was so near, yet so far.
Heaven is a place so near to those baptized into Christ
and faithfully living for God. A hymn says, "I am going to a city where
the streets with gold are laid; where the tree of life is blooming, and
the roses never fade." But for others, it is so far away.

I
Will Do More. . .

I
will do more than belong - I will participate.
I will do more than care - I will help.
I will do more than believe - I will practice.
I will do more than be fair - I will be kind.
I will do more than forgive - I will work.
I will do more than earn - I will enrich.
I will do more than teach - I will inspire.
I will do more than give - I will serve.
I will do more than live - I will grow.
I will do more than be friendly -I will be a friend.
