Volume XXI - Number 47

What's Happening to Our Kids?
Jerry Carmichael

Recent surveys indicate from 50 to 80 percent of children whose parents are Christians denounce their affiliation with the church when they become adults. By doing this they are denouncing Christ and any hope of eternal life as well.
This problem is often blamed on the times in which we live. Things such as drugs, alcohol, sex, and atheism in the public schools do take a toll on one's spirituality, but they are no match for the influence of two godly parents.

Surveys also show that when both parents attend all services of the church and are actively involved in the work thereof, that only 1 out of 14 of their children fall away. In other words, the loss of three out of four children from the church is because the majority of Christian parents are not bringing them up properly according to Ephesians 6:4!

A parent who attends some Sunday mornings and no Sunday evenings or Wednesday evenings, is in essence telling his child that the church is not very important in his life. This is magnified by the way we faithfully shuttle them to every club meeting, ball game, and any other event which comes up, and we are always on time for those!

What is happening to our children is a direct result of the influence of lukewarm parents. That kind of influence will send our children to Hell! The church of the future will consist of the youth from today. Her future spiritual condition lies in the hands of today's parents! ❦

Ghana Fund REPORT
Ladies, I am happy to report that we now have about $1,000 in our Ghana Fund. Upon conferring with Brother Bauer and upon his recommendation, we have decided to send $250 from our fund over to the brethren in the Volta region who are operating a school for 360+ needy children, teaching them the way of the Lord along with providing them with a sound education. The money will provide blocks for durable classrooms and desks for the children.

It will be decided shortly how we can best use more of our funds. I will keep you informed. Also, if any of you have any teaching materials that these brethren could use, please let Brother Bauer know so that arrangements can be made to ship them over. The holidays are upon us and we tend to spend perhaps more than we should on materials things. Let us not forget to put aside some extra for this good work we are doing.

The viewing is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 30 at 7-9 pm --and the funeral for Saturday, Dec. 1 at 10 am -- both to be held at Kersey Funeral Home. Keep Frank and the family in your prayers.
