WELCOME!!
We are privileged to
have Geoffrey and Marina Rowe with us today. Geoff will be our speaker
today in the auditorium, for the 9:30am Bible class and for the
10:30 morning and 6:00 evening worship services. He is concluding
the “Case For Creation” series that was started Friday
evening at the High School auditorium.
We are also very honored
to have our visitors with us and hope that you find all that we
do to be decent and in order. Please return and be with us again
at any of our scheduled services. Be sure to give us the opportunity
to meet and get to know you.
Geoffrey
Rowe--Background:
Geoff was brought up
in the Church of Christ and became a member of the Lord’s
church at age 14 (1969). Over the next few years, the public school
system, and his science classes in particular, subtly prodded him
to doubt the accuracy of the Bible. By the time he left home for
college, his conversion back to the world was almost complete. Unable
to defend his already weak faith (and not willing to even try),
he accepted the world’s view (professors' views) of the age
of the earth, monkey to man evolution, all species could not have
fit on Noah's ark, Mt. Everest could not have been covered with
water, etc. So Geoff concluded that if the first book of the Bible
was wrong, then maybe parts of the New Testament were not perfect.
So why go to church? Of course this first step only led to more
steps away from God. For the next 19 to 20 years Geoff was not even
aware that, according to God’s word, he was going to hell.
Then in the fall of 1993, a technician at work was debating an atheist
engineer in the lab. Geoff finally went over to the creationist
and said, I go to church, and I don't care if God took millions
of years, or used monkeys to make men? Why does it matter?.
Then Geoff asked about radiometric dating techniques, and other
scientific evidences that "prove" the earth to be old.
The creationist could not answer these questions, so Geoff just
passed off his belief as a lack of knowledge about "science".
The following week the creationist gave Geoff a video about the
Mt. St. Helen's eruption on May 18th 1980. Even though Geoff had
no interest in geology, when he finally saw the video, he was amazed
at how fast a one fortieth scale Grand Canyon could form. It formed
in one afternoon. But, this did not really put a dent in Geoff's
evolutionary belief. But the next week the creationist gave Geoff
another video on scientific evidences. After Geoff saw this video,
he dedicated himself to study this subject and to find the answer.
It did not take long to discover that Geoff's teachers had not shown
him all the evidence (they did not know themselves). This additional
evidence showed how evolution is scientifically impossible, and
that the Bible's account of creation was confirmed by the scientific
observations.
Science used to mean,
"that which is known". Knowledge was often a synonym
for science. See 1 Timothy 6:20 (KJV) "avoiding profane
and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called."
Geoff has searched the scientific literature since 1993, and has
not found any scientific reason to believe in evolution. But he
has found many scientific reasons to believe in the Bible and its
account of creation. ❦
