Fishers Of Men...What Is It?

The FISHERS OF MEN MINISTRY is a twelve-week course of specialized training in person-to-person evangelism. There are eleven 2 ½ hour classes held for eleven consecutive weeks. Nightly homework on first principles plus Bible studies with non-Christians is required for graduation. A graduation banquet is held on week twelve. Each student enrolled in the Course is asked to commit himself to faithfully attending the classes and completing all assigned homework, averaging about an hour each day. The curriculum is geared to the typical member of the church of Christ with little or no experience in teaching the gospel. The FOM course entails daily Bible study and training in methods of reaching and teaching the lost.

SOME TOPICS COVERED IN THE FOM COURSE:

  • DISCOVERING AND DEVELOPING A PERSON'S INTEREST IN A HOME BIBLE STUDY
  • ASSESSING THE "HEART CONDITION" OF PROSPECTS
  • HOW AND WHERE TO GET DEFINITE APPOINTMENTS FOR HOME BIBLE STUDIES
  • DEALING WITH QUESTIONS AND OBJECTIONS
  • TEACHING EFFECTIVELY
  • CREATING GODLY SORROW
  • PERSUADING SCRIPTURALLY

The FOM Course is designed to significantly increase the Christian's effectiveness in one-on-one teaching of the gospel. All of the principles and most of the procedures taught in the Course are effective with whatever scriptural teaching tool used. During the Course the SEARCH FOR TRUTH Series is used exclusively.

Any Christian male or female who is 16 or older may enroll in the Course if willing to make the necessary commitment.

Over SEVEN THOUSAND baptized in eighteen years! Eighty-five instructors have conducted over 600 FOM Courses in thirty states with over 7000 members of the church from approximately 700 congregations. These 7000 + Christians have conducted over 35,000 Bible studies with about 14,000 souls. Approximately 7,000 have been baptized into Christ. During this time, students of the FOM Course have been involved in establishing about a half-dozen new congregations. The FOM Course has also been conducted in Brazil, Canada, England, Germany, Italy, Russia and St. Vincent, West Indies. ❧

Within the church I find my best friends. Social life and recreation is part of "church life". The local church can be a framework within which we live every day of our lives. We sometimes think of the church as a brick building where we meet about three hours a week. Why not think of it as a society in which we educate and train our young, fulfill our dreams and aspirations, even bury our dead?
