Volume XXIII - Number 6

HAVE YOU THOUGHT?

Have you ever stopped to wonder
      what this life is all about?
Why you're here and where you're going
      when your lease on time runs out?
Maybe you've been far too busy,
     trying hard to reach your goal;
would you let me ask you kindly,
      have you thought about your soul?

You may reach the highest portals,
     and your dreams may all come true;
wealth and fame may be your portion,
     and success may shine on you.
All your friends may sing your praises,
     not a care on you may roll;
What about the great tomorrow -
      have you thought about your soul?

Don't forget your days are numbered
     though you may be riding high;
but like all of us poor mortals,
     someday you'll just up and die.
Your success and fame and glory
     won't be worth the bell you toll;
let me ask you just one question,
     have you though about your soul?

If you've never thought it over,
     spend a little time today;
there is nothing more important
     that will ever come your way,
than the joys of sins forgiven,
     and to know you've been made whole;
in the name of Christ the Savior,
     have you thought about your soul?

AM SERMON:
"Growing Through Trials"
(1 Peter 4:12-14)
PM SERMON:
"When Does An Account In The Bible Constitute An Example"
(Acts 20:7-12)

It is with a sad heart that we extend our deepest sympathy to Marie Howard and her family in the passing of brother Junior Howard this past Thursday evening, following a brief illness. Junior was a long-time member here at Orange Street and served both as an elder and as a minister to the congregation back in the ‘70s. Visitation is set for this afternoon (Sunday), at Kersey’s Funeral Home, from 2 to 3 p.m., with the funeral following at 3 p.m.. Keep Marie, Debbie, Cheryl, Derek and the rest of the family in your every prayer.

Our hearts also grieve with sister Dorothy Garner in the tragic loss of her granddaughter, Teresa Morrow, who died in an automobile accident last Saturday week (Feb. 1). The funeral was held last Wednesday. It is our prayer that God will provide his peace and comfort during these times of deepest loss and sorrow.

The regular monthly Ladies' Devo and Luncheon is scheduled for tomorrow (Monday) at 11:30 a.m. in the annex. All of our Ladies are invited to attend and participate.

Moved
Maury and Frances Deaton have moved to their new home in Lakeland. Maury announced that they have accepted an invitation to work in the teaching program at the Springhead congregation in Plant City, so they will no longer be attending here. We will miss the Deatons and wish them God speed in the work they will do there.

In The Foyer
There are several publications in the foyer provided by the elders for your learning and edification, including: Heart to Heart, Christian Life, and Christian Courier. Get them while they last.

Baptized Into Christ
Our hearts were made to rejoice when Gladys Wagner responded to the Gospel invitation this past Sunday evening (Feb. 2). Gladys came forward asking to be immersed for the remission of her sins. Let us all make our new sister welcome to the household of God and run with joy and patience the race that is set before us all.

Each new day is an opportunity to start all over again...to cleanse our minds and hearts anew and to clarity our vision. Let us not clutter up today with the leavings of other days. Let us begin each day with a prayer to God to guide us in everything.
