Volume XXIV - Number 26

Why Me Lord?
Bob Bauer

One of my favorites songs is entitled “Why Me Lord?” In it, the first line asks the question, “Why me Lord? What have I ever done to deserve even one of the blessings I’ve known?” Time and time again in my life I have asked myself that question. When I think about the brethren I have come to know and love, my family, our material blessings, I can but whisper, “Why me Lord?”

One such blessing that Shirley and I have talked about many times in the past three and a half years has been working with you brethren here at Orange Street. When I think of all the preachers with more knowledge, better speaking ability, and that are more widely known who could have had the blessing of working with you, I can only ask, “Why me Lord?”

To give you an example of how great a congregation that you are, let me tell you what has happened since last Sunday evening. In the lesson I mentioned that Daniel Stearsman needed $1600 more to pay for his airfare to Ghana, by the close of Wednesday night’s service he had the needed funds. I mentioned that Jim Hall needed an additional $300 to pay for his airfare. He has received the needed funds. The $200 for Daniel Ababio’s braces has been donated as well as a promise of $200 for the native language Bibles. The miscellaneous supplies list has been almost completely filled and the supplies are pouring in. What an outpouring of Christian love!

In the apostle Paul’s letter to the brethren at Philippi, he wrote, “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy.” I know for a fact that every day there are those in Ghana who remember you brethren here at Orange Street in their prayers. They know what a blessing you are to the Lord’s work in Ghana and to some of them particularly. I am also sure that they ask themselves the same question that I ask, “Why me Lord?”

Wednesday Night Series
Our Summer Series of Wednesday night devotional speakers has been a tremendous success thus far, and will continue this coming Wednesday evening with brother Howard Johnson from the Springhead congregation in Plant City. Howard is a former member here and we all look forward to seeing and hearing him again. He will be speaking on the subject, "Stormy Weather -- Surviving Troubled Times". Be sure to attend all of these special lessons.

How important are we? The little boy said to his mother, "Will Daddy ever go to Heaven?" "Yes, son, what makes you ask such a question?", "Well, Mother, how can he ever leave the store?" That daddy couldn't leave the store to go to church and worship God. But rest assured, that daddy will leave the store when death comes and calls his name.

Go to the Bible as a auditor, not as an editor.
