Volume XXIV - Number 42

Smart Girl
Author Unknown

A young public school teacher with obvious liberal tendencies explained to her class of children that she was an atheist. She asked them if they were atheists, too. Not really knowing what atheism was, but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands exploded into the air like fireworks.

There was, however, one exception. A beautiful girl named Lucy had not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asked her why she had decided to be different. "Because I'm not an atheist," she declared. Then the teacher asked, "What are you?". "I'm a Christian", Lucy replied.

The teacher was perturbed. Her face flushed red. She asked Lucy why she was a Christian. Lucy replied, "Well, my mom is a Christian, and my dad is a Christian, so I am a Christian too." The teacher was so angry by now. "That's no reason," she said loudly. "What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron. What would you be then?"

A pause and a smile, "Then," said Lucy. "I'd probably be an atheist." ?

Reasons I Stopped Attending Football Games

1. Every time I went, they asked me for money.
2. The people sitting next to me didn't seem very friendly.
3. The seats were too hard.
4. The coach never came to call on me.
5. The referee made a decision I disagreed with.
6. I was sitting with hypocrites - they came only to see what others were wearing.
7. Some of the games went into overtime and I was late getting home.
8. The band played songs I didn't like.
9. The games were scheduled when I wanted to do other things.
10. My parents took me to too many games when I was growing up.
11. Since I read a book about football, I know more than the coaches, anyhow.
12. I don't want to take my children, because I want them to choose for themselves what sport they like best.

... And they all with one consent began to make excuses. (Luke 14:18)

Restored...
Our hearts were made to rejoice at the response to the Gospel of brother Jason Powell this past Wednesday evening. He came forward confessing sin and asking for the prayers of the church. Keep Jason in your daily prayers that he might have the strength to continue the race before us.

PW Group “B”
Visitation Team “B” is scheduled to meet this morning after the AM worship service in Assembly Room “B”. Team members are encouraged to attend.

The Pantry
The pantry is still in need of canned meats, fruits and entrees. Items may be left on the table in front of the pantry — located at the rear of annex.

How do you climb a mountain? This may sound strange, but the question is a valid one. To climb any peak, there is one thing we must do – we must first desire to reach the top, then we must take the first step toward the goal we have set and not give in to the impulse to quit.
