We are an independent congregation of Christians, in fellowship
with churches of Christ throughout the world. Our aim is to
simply be the church like the one you read about in the New
Testament. Consider some of the distinctions of that church:
While on the. earth, Jesus promised
to build His church (Matt.16:18). It would be founded upon
the fact of His being the Christ, the
Son of God (vv.45-16), After His resurrection and return to Heaven,
the gospel of salvation was preached in Jerusalem by the apostles
(Acts 2). Many of those who heard the gospel were convicted of
their sins (v. 37). They were commanded to "repent and be
baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for remission of sins" (v.
38). When they had done these things, they were "added to
the church" (v. 47). They did not join a denomination, because
there were none to join. They simply believed and responded in
faith, whereupon they were added to the only church that existed.
We believe that the same faith and obedience will result in being
added to the same church today!
Worship in the early church was simple
and appropriate. Verse 42 of Acts 2 makes reference to some
of those things the assembled
church did: "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles'
doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers." There
is reference in particular here to the preaching of truth, the
Lord's Supper (cf Acts 20:7) and prayer. Additionally, Christians
praised God and instructed one another in song (Eph. 5:19; Col.
3:16), and gave of their means (I Cor. 16:1-2). All of these
things will be done in worship here today, and every Lord's day.
We are committed to the idea of being Christians without being
a part of a religious denomination. The New Testament contains
no provision for the existence of denominations, and we believe
the simple model for the church found in the New Testament is
sufficient for Christians today (cf. 2 Tim. 3:16-17).
Of course, the most important thing New Testament Christians
did was to be devoted to Christ in all things. Emphasis must
be given to the work, worship, and organization of the church,
as well as to faithfulness in all areas of daily life. When one
is baptized into Christ (Rom. 6:3), he is raised to a new life,
with all its privileges and responsibilities (Rom. 6:4; cf. Eph.
1 :3; 1 John 1:6-9).
Let us learn and work together to "grow in the grace and
knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Pet. 3:18).
