Volume XXIV - Number 8

More Than We Expect
JOHN GIPSON

God does things in abundance! There is an overflow in all His gifts - and it's always more than we expect.

Who would have ever believed that five barley loaves and two fish could not only feed five thousand men, but allow all of them to eat their fill? But there was more! After everyone had eaten, the disciples of Jesus gathered up and filled twelve baskets with fragments which remained from the meal. God does things abundantly!

The poor man at the gate looked for Alms . He would have been satisfied with a quarter. But instead of that he got health and strength. That is the generous way of Jesus Christ. The poor man begged for a coin and got a cure.

The man who was let down through the roof of the house where Jesus was, received far more than the healing of his palsy. He got his sins forgiven as well. That was more than he expected.

The prodigal son knew that he wasn't entitled to anything more from his father. He had received his and wasted it in loose living. His life had become a mess. He wanted to go home and live as a slave. Instead, he got a robe and a ring! And that was much more than he expected..

If you read your Bible, you will find Gods abundance mentioned over and over. You will learn of the "abundance of grace," and the "abundance of joy." You will keep bumping into such words as exceeding, still more excellent, exceedingly, beyond measure, abound, and more and more exceedingly.

There is one thing we can be sure of: Jesus will do more for us than we expect.

PREPARATION

Did you hear about the boy who failed all his college work? He wired his mother: “Failed everything; prepare Papa.” His mother wired back. “Papa prepared; prepare yourself.” This is the message a lot of us need in view of the coming judgment. God is prepared. We need to prepare ourselves!

The class will be taught by Carl Chambers and Chad Tagtow and will be held the 4th Wednesday evening of each month.

Excuses do not fool people who think. Since this is true of men, how much more is it true of God! God knows the real motive of our heart. He certainly knows the real motives behind the excuses we give for not serving him. Why deceive ourselves with an excuse.
