Jesus
Asks "WHY?"
— Royce Frederick—
Several times Jesus challenges us by asking, "Why?" Each
time, it is obvious that there is no good reason for us to continue
doing the thing which Jesus has questioned. Here are some questions?
WHY WORRY?
“And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow; they toil not neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That
even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if
God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into
the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith" (Matthew
6:28-30)? Even though their life is short God adorns the flowers with great
beauty. Will God give less help to his children?
WHY JUDGE?
“Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye
shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest
not the beam that is in thine own eye” (Matthew 7:1-3)? Why do we look
beyond our own large faults to search for faults in the lives of other people?
Jesus teaches us to examine and correct our own lives first. Then we will have
clearer vision for helping other people (Matthew 7:4-5).
WHY
OBEY MEN'S TEACHING ABOUT SERVING GOD?
"But he answered and said unto them, Why
do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition" (Matthew
15:3)? The Bible is God's complete message to mankind. In the New
Testament, God reveals all of his instructions
for us today regarding how to worship and serve him (see 2 Timothy 3:16-17).
If we obey the traditions and teachings of men in matters of religion-, God
will not accept our worship. "But in vain they do worship me, teaching
for doctrines the commandments of men" (Matthew 15:9).
WHY CALL HIM LORD WITHOUT OBEYING HIM COMPLETELY?
"And why call ye me,
Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say" (Luke 6:46)? Our lips may
be calling him "Lord'' while our life is rejecting him. We must obey the
will of Christ in all things. "Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord,
Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of
my Father which is in heaven" (Matthew 7:21).
DRUG PROBLEM
I had a "drug" problem when I was a young person and
teenager:
I was "drug" to church on Sunday
morning.
I was "drug" to church on Sunday night.
I was "drug" to church on Wednesday night.
I was "drug" to Sunday School every week.
I was "drug" to Vacation Bible School.
I was "drug" to the family gathering to read the
Bible and pray.
I was "drug" to the woodshed when I disobeyed my
parents.
Those "drugs" are still in my veins;
and they affect my behavior in everything I do and say and think.-
They are stronger than cocaine, crack or heroine. If your children
had this kind of "drug" problem, wouldn't America be
a better place?
Thanks Mom and Dad!!
