Volume XXV - Number 14

Changing My Life Into The Likeness of Christ
Wendell Winkler

"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." (2 Corinthians 3:18)

Christ was– I must be–
1. Humble (Phil 2:3-11) Humble (James 4:6)
2. Forgiving (Luke 23:24) Forgiving (Mar 11:25)
3. Zealous (John 9:4; 2:17) Zealous (Titus 2:14)
4. Prayerful (Mark 1:35) Prayerful (1 Thess 5:17)
5. Compassionate (John 11:35) Compassionate (Romans 12:15)
6. Unretaliatory (Mt 26:59ff) Unretaliatory (Romans 12:17-21)
7. Submissive (Luke 22:42) Submissive (Matt 6:10)
8. Serving (Matt 20:28) Serving (Matt 20:26-27)
9. Passionate (Luke 19:41) Passionate (Romans 9:1-3)
10. Giving (Matt 20:28) Giving (Luke 6:38)

With Paul may we affirm, "So now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:20,21). Then, we can sing, and really mean it, "I want to be more like Jesus." ❦

Is Your Hut Burning?
Copied from the Green Mountain Messenger

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. Everyday, he prayed intently for God to rescue him, but it seemed He just wasn't listening. He eventually managed to build himself a hut out of driftwood to protect him from the weather and store what few possessions he had managed to salvage. Then, one day after being struck by lightening. The worst he could imagine had happened. Everything he had was lost. He would surely just give up and die now. "God, how could you do this to me!?" he cried.

Early the next morning, as he lie on the shore distraught, he was startled by a group of men who had arrived by boat to rescue him. "How did you know I was here?" he asked. They replied, "We saw your smoke signal."

It is so easy to get discouraged when things happen, or complain because God doesn't answer our prayers in the way we want Him to. But God is always at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering. Remember, next time "your hut is burning," it may be a "smoke signal" given by the grace of God. He loves you and cares for you even if you can't always see it.

Sister Elsie Chambers is undergoing a difficult time lately with the recent death of one of her sons and now her daughter, Patricia, moving up north. Jim Hall is asking that all who would, to either stop by and see her at Auburndale Oaks or give her a call (she has her own phone). Her phone # is in the online directory.

Thanks

A Christian is a person who is clean inside and out; who neither looks up to the rich nor down to the poor; who can win without bragging, and lose without quitting; who's considerate of all others who are less fortunate than he; who takes the blessings of life and shares them with all.
