Volume XXV - Number 19

Why Even Some Christians Will Be Lost
Randy Kea

The church of Christ is composed of the saved. (Acts 2:47) "Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." Jesus is the Savior of the body [the church]. (Ephesians 5:23) "For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body." (2 Peter 2:20-22) "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire."

1. Christians can be led astray by false teachers. (2 Peter 2:1-2) "But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.” (2 Peter 3:17) "Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from you own steadfastness."

2. Christians can neglect their own salvation. (Hebrews 2:1-4) "Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should lot them slip. For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense of reward, How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation: which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? "

3. If we as Christians fail to use our talents we will be lost eternally. (Matthew 25:30) "And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

4. Sometimes Christians simply stop putting first things first. (Matthew 6:33) "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

5. The influence of others can cause people to become unfaithful. (1 Corinthians 15:33) "Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners."

6. The love of worldly things above spiritual matters will cause Christians to forfeit their relationship with God. (2 Timothy 4:10) "For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.”

As we live day by day, are we seeking our own material pleasures and comforts, or are we seeking the things which are Christ's? Do we show more concern over this life than the one to come? We should seek to set our affections on things above, not on things of the earth. Jesus said that where the heart is, there will our treasure be also. Where is your heart? Consider your life.
