Mother's Firsts
Kevin Cauley
The day that the world sets aside to remember mother’s day is ranks among one of the greatest things that has been done by man in the history of man. The old adage is true, “The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world” and the influence of mothers all over the world on their children can be seen for generations. Mothers can be an influence for good, or they can be an influence for evil depending upon the attitude of the mother. For mothers, like every other person upon this earth, are not immune to sin.
The word mother, however, generally conjures up within our minds thoughts of harmlessness, purity, love, and devotion. Sad are the reports in which we hear of mothers doing unspeakable things to their children. Disturbing are the times in which we live when we hear of mothers not living up to the standard of motherhood. This emphasizes to us the importance of getting the gospel to all men to hold up the true standard of motherhood as displayed for us within the Bible.
As we remember our mother’s today, I would like to call to your mind some questions which likely were answered by your mother at the beginning of your life.
1. Who gave you your first glass of water?
2. Who sang the first song to you?
3. Who heard your first word spoken?
4. Who taught you how to walk?
5. Who taught you how to talk?
6. Who taught you how to keep quiet?
7. Who put a Band-Aid on your first booboo?
8. Who cleaned up your first mess?
9. Who bought you your first toys?
10. Who gave you your first hug?
11. Who gave you your first kiss?
12. Who first rocked you to sleep?
13. Who first worried when you were sick?
14. Who first dressed you?
15. Who first listened when you had a problem?
16. Who first took you to worship?
17. Who first read you a story?
18. Who first read to you the Bible?
19. Who first corrected you when you made a mistake?
20. Who first gave you a cookie to make you feel better?
21. Who first said, “I love you” before you even knew what love was all about?
We owe a debt of gratitude to our mothers. Whether our mothers are living or whether they have passed to their reward, on this day, let us honor them and remember the great things they did for us in our life.
Mother's Are...
Floyd Wood
Blowers of noses and washers of ears,
Smoothers of bumped spots and wipers of tears,
Bathers of babies and umpires of spats,
Finders of boots and mittens and hats,
Helpers with lessons and makers of beds,
Shakers of dust cloths and combers of heads,
Button-sew-oners and winders of clocks
Menders of dresses and darners of socks.
Tellers of stories and readers of books,
Judges and juries of conduct and looks,
Doctors of heartaches and hearers of prayers,
Generals directing all family affairs,
Tenders of home fires and builders of men,
(Oh, for the gift of an adequate pen!)
