Volume XXV - Number 47

The Greatest Need Among Us
KEN TYLER

GENUINE BIBLE STUDY This is it! When we do not study we become ignorant. This is the reason many Christians do not know the answers to the basic Bible questions. We are letting our society destroy us spiritually. Too much entertainment; too much responsibility; too much prosperity. We do not have the time. We do not feel the need.

When we come to worship we think we have to be entertained. The preacher who is the best entertainer is the man for the job. We are competing with TV, computers, and satellites. When will we be able to see that what we really need is GENUINE BIBLE STUDY? How long has it been since you studied a passage like Psalm 23? I'll tell you one thing, I know it had an impact on your fife. An impact that the entertainment of this world cannot give.

A Christian cannot live without the word of God just like a person cannot live without food. Have you quit eating? "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. . ." (Hosea 4:6). This is a verse we must never forget. And here is another one, "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee" (Psalm 119:11). The word keeps us from sin. Have we forgotten?

Brethren, GENUINE BIBLE STUDY. The greatest need among us. Its not going to be easy 'in our environment. But the person with his head on right knows. he cannot live without the word. of God. Pay the price! You won't ever regret it.

Seven Things To Be Thankful For
Author Unknown

1 For automatic dishwashers. They make it possible to get out of the kitchen before the family come in for their after-dinner snacks.

2 For husbands who attack small repair jobs around the house. They usually make them big enough to call in professionals.

3 For the bathtub -- the one place the family allows Mom some time to herself.

4 For children who put away their things and clean up after themselves. They're such a joy you hate to see them go home to their own parents.

5 For gardening. It's a relief to deal with dirt outside the house for a change.

6 For teenagers. They give parents an opportunity to learn a second language.

7 For smoke alarms. They let you know when the turkey's done.

Have a Safe and Happy
Thanksgiving

Eph 5:20
Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Col 1:12 ¶ Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Heb 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Wednesday Night Devotional
We are scheduled to have a Thanksgiving Devotional this coming Wednesday evening instead of our regular classes. Come and participate while we give thanks to God in word, song, and prayer for all that He provides.

Prayer:
Don't give God instructions —
just report for duty!

Thanksgiving Lectureship
The Arcadia church of Christ is sponsoring a Thanksgiving Lectureship November 19th–24th (Today-Friday) with the theme “Beyond Baptism”. They are featuring different speakers each night and our own Bob Bauer will be speaking this Tuesday evening (21st) . There is a flyer on the bulletin board with times, speakers and subjects.

New Member
Stanley Oliver has made it known that he would like to be identified with the saints that worship here at Orange Street. Stan was a member here for many years before moving up north for several years. It is good to have him back in our number. We will run his directory information when it is available.

A little shoeshine boy, with ragged clothes and worn out shoes, was shining the shoes of a wealthy man. While he worked he sang, "Jesus loves me, this I know". The man stopped the boy and asked, "If Jesus loves you so much, why doesn't he tell the people to buy you some shoes and clothes?" The little boy, with tears in his eyes, replied, "He did tell them, Mister, but they forgot."
