Volume XXVI - Number 20

Five from Orange Street Graduate This Year

We will be honoring our five graduates tonight during our monthly fellowship. Ashley Callender, Christina Chambers, Chris Howell, Brittany Paye, and Rebecca Thompson have all reached this milestone in their lives and are moving on to their next stage of life.

Ashley has been an honor student throughout her high school career and has been taking college level classes the past year. She plans to attend Polk Community College under a Bright Futures Scholarship. Her goal is to pursue a business degree and possibly focus upon the real estate industry.

Christina, who was home schooled, has recently passed the necessary tests and received her GED. She is considering a career as a nanny. She is inquiring into the entrance requirements for the English Nanny and Governess School in Chagrin Falls, OH.

Christopher is considering continuing his education through technical training. He is currently working at Publix.

Brittany has also been an honor student throughout her high school career and has completed four years of early education courses. She also completed the web design program was in the top twenty of her class the first three years of high school and has been a member of National Honor Society the past two years. Brittany has been accepted at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN and has received a scholarship from them.

Rebecca has been one of the top twenty students in her class all four years of high school. She has taken college level classes this last year and is planning on attending either Polk Community College or University of South Florida this fall. She has been a member of National Honor Society the past two years. She also has received the Bright Futures Scholarship.
With so much negative news being heard concerning young people, the accomplishments of our graduates is truly a reflection upon the character of their parents, their families, and of these young people themselves. WELL DONE ! ❦

A Bad Copy
Edsel Burleson

A man had a sweet singing canary. He felt it was a pity, when spring came, to keep the poor bird in the house. So he decided to hang the cage under a large tree in the yard for the summer.. The tree was the home for many English sparrows. Before he realized what was taking place, the little canary had lost all its sweet notes. It had spent the summer in bad company!!! When fall came and it was taken into the house, the man heard only the noise, "twitter, twitter, twitter," learned from the sparrows.

"Everyone is born an original, but dies a copy." Whom we choose to copy determines our final destiny.

All are invited to meet with us this evening (20th) after the PM services for our regular monthly fellowship in the annex. May’s gathering is a week earlier than our usual last Sunday feast and will be in honor of our student graduates as well as the birthdays and anniversaries for the month of May. Be sure to attend and bring your favorite covered dish.

Change For Ghana
Remember to bring in your "Change for Ghana" containers and turn them in to Tammi Paye. We need to start collecting the funds for the coming Ghana Campaign.

The Pantry
We are still in need of canned vegetables, canned meats, canned fruit, canned entrees and personal hygiene items. Leave donated items in the annex.

Don't speak unless you can improve on the silence.

How often a heart is pained by a careless word that we would like to take back again, but it is too late, for the damage has been done, and the scar cannot be removed. If we only knew, if we could only realize, what unthinking words could mean, we would seal our lips, or bite our tongue that they might never fall from our lips. Since "death and life are in the power of the tongue" (Prov 18:21), let us resolve to be "slow to speak".
