Volume XXVII - Number 22

Renaming Sin
Alan Smith

Someone has come up with the following list of "politically correct" terms for teenagers:

We have become experts at using language to hide the reality of our situation. We don't hear much about homosexuals; instead we talk of those with an "alternative lifestyle." Fornication is now referred to as "cohabiting with a significant other." We rarely sin; we merely "fail to live up to our full potential." It's not a new game -- the Pharisees neglected the welfare of their parents, but called it "Corban" (dedication to God).

Changing the wording doesn't change the sin. "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20).

Classroom Preference
Don't forget to sign-up on one of the lists posted on the bulletin board in the foyer, for which of the classrooms you would like to attend during the coming year. Each class will cover the same materials taught by the same teachers in the course of a year's time. Teachers will rotate each quarter, teaching their same subject in each of the classrooms.

Campaign 2008
Bob Bauer and Jim Hall will soon be leaving on the annual missionary campaign to Ghana, West Africa in just a few weeks. There is a list of needs posted on the bulletin board in the foyer and Bob's lesson this evening will cover the itinerary and needs. Remember to continue collecting your loose change and dollar bills for the "Change for Ghana" fund. Larger donations will also be welcomed and may be given to one of the elders.

Calender Change
Due to scheduling conflicts, the Men's Breakfast will be held at N. Jackson Ave. in Bartow this month (Sat., June 21st) and Eagle Lake will host the breakfast next month on July 19th.

The Pantry
The food program distributed food to 9 families (35 individuals) this past Thursday. This week's needs are as follows:

    • Rice
    • Dried Beans
    • Treat or Spam
    • Beef Stew
    • Green Beans
    • Peanut Butter & Jelly Mix
This is the time of year when many of our number are on the roads and in the airways traveling. Please keep them in your prayers – that they may have safe journeys and return to us refreshed in body, mind and spirit!
