To keep you informed:
The eldership often receives requests for funds. Some requests we cannot or will not meet and others we can. We want to inform you of three requests which have come before us which we believe are worthy of support. We have been helping to support the work of Media church of Christ where David Stearsman preaches. Some of their core members relocated and it has left the congregation in financial difficulties. From January to June, we helped them with $200 per month with the agreement we would reassess their situation in June. We have decided to continue help them through December 2009. At that time we will once again reassess their work.
Also, we have received two other requests which we feel are worthy of our support. Steve Walling, a member at Jackson Ave. in Bartow, will be attending the Florida School of Preaching this fall. We have agreed to help support him with $200 per month. Steve is the son of Ira and Ada Walling.
Eagle Lake has revitalized the Hispanic ministry. Christian Torres, who has preached for us numerous times and is a graduate of the Florida School of Preaching, will be the evangelist for this work. We have agreed to help with $300 per month.
In addition, it is the plan of the eldership to begin doing some evening visits. On the second Tuesday of each month, we will try to visit with those members who are not available during daytime working hours. We will try to set appointments as much as possible in advance.
We have had a suggestion to change our last Sunday of the month service schedule. It has been suggested that we have our fellowship meal immediately after the morning service and then have our Sunday P.M. service around 1:00-1:30. We want your thoughts on this proposed change. A sign-up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board for you to post your yeah or nay.
Thank you for allowing us to serve such a dedicated congregation.

I've Been Working Toward That Day
Bill McCormick
"A good name is better than a good ointment, and the day of one's death is better than the day of one's birth." Ecclesiastes 7:1
The doctor came to his bedside and softly told him they had done all they could. He would die in three to six weeks. The doctor was taken aback by brother Gholson's calm and even welcoming response to the prognosis. How could he take it so calmly? Brother Gholson's response: "I've been working toward this for the best part of my life."
We are encouraged, having put on Christ, to "set our affections on things above not on the earth" (Col.3:1,2). Abraham "looked for a city which has foundations, whose maker and builder is God" (Heb. 11:10). If we have built up our treasure in heaven rather than on earth (Matt. 6:20,21) through faithfully living by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matt. 4:4), walking in the light (I John 1:7), we too can face with hope that time appointed to all men (Heb. 9:27). If we live in peace with God, we can die in peace with Him (Psa. 37:37).
