Doctor J. P. Jones and family came to Auburndale in January 1913. As soon as he had his home finished, sometime during that year, he, his wife, his two daughters--Ethel and Ruby, his son L. P. Jones, and his daughter-in-law Mrs. A. H. Jones started worshipping in his new home.

Soon after that, brother Morton and his family came to Auburndale and worshipped with them. The church then had grown sufficiently to hold meetings in the old Masonic Building on Bridgers Avenue. The attendance was good at Bible School and also a good congregation at the regular worship service.

Several more were then added to the church by brother J. P. Jones and brother Morton, while preaching at this location. When the old building was condemned, the members scattered--the Jones met with the Eagle Lake congregation because brother Jones was preaching for them once a month. The Mortons met with the Winter Haven congregation.

In 1932, brother Byron Conley came to Auburndale and held a tent revival. This meeting was sponsored by the Lakeland church of Christ. A local congregation was organized with about twenty-seven members. The new church met in the new Masonic Hall over the bank. Brother Conley came back in a few months and held another revival, which lasted eight weeks. During this revival meeting, about seventy-five obeyed the gospel, and following this call, the congregation was raised to over one hundred members.

The church then secured a dwelling house on Oak Street from Mr. Exum and converted it into a meeting place. Services were held for about a year.

Brother W. W. Norman gave a lot on Orange Street for a building site. An old store building of the Banfield Lumber Company was purchased at Polk City. It was torn down, moved here and rebuilt on the lot. This gave the congregation a building twenty-eight by fifty feet. About three years ago (1939), three classrooms were added to the original building.

During those years, there have been several gospel preachers with the Auburndale church. Brother Conley, who began the work here, was followed by brother Alton McNutt, for about six months. Brother C. C. Jones came for a short while after that and then brother H.C. Shoulders of Largo, came over once a month for about two years. Brother J. W. Nicholas and brother Ernest Estevez labored here some. Brother Levi Gentry, of Lakeland, has held revivals here with great success. Brother Edwin Miller, of Lakeland, preaches every Sunday morning at the present time.

Brother B. L. Valentine, who has lived in Auburndale since 1924, has been very active in the work connected with the church of Christ here. He and brother S. J. Wilson were appointed elders of the local congregation several years ago. Brother Valentine has done most of the preaching since the church was organized. He also teaches the Adult Bible Class and preaches Sunday and Wednesday evenings.

Sister Wilson teaches the Intermediate class; sister Lizzy Castleberry teaches the Primary class; and sister Sue Woodham tells the Bible stories.

The members of the church of Christ welcome all who desire to attend their services and join with them in worship.
