Doctor's home was first
site of Church of Christ

Auburndale Church of Christ had its beginnings in January, 1913. The place of meeting was the new home of Dr. J.P. Jones. It wasn't long before the congregation grew too large, for the Jones home, so services were moved to the old Masonic Building on Bridgers Avenue. When that building was condemned, the members of the church scattered, some meeting with the Eagle Lake Church and others with the Winter Haven Church.
Services began to be, held again in Auburndale in 1932. They were conducted by Byron Conley in the new Masonic Hall above the bank. The membership grew rapidly by means of several tent meetings or revivals.
A dwelling was later secured on Oak Street and converted into a meeting place. Services were held in it for about a year. At that time a building was erected at the present location on Orange Street. It was added on to in 1939, and some years later another addition of nine classrooms was added.,
In 1966 an auditorium was built which could comfortably seat 350 people. New upholstered pews were also purchased.
