Blessed Are The Pure In Heart

03-02-2001

The Bible heart is the seat of man’s emotional life (Acts 2:26), his volition (2 Cor. 9:7), his rational life (Acts 7:23), and his conscience (Acts 2:37; 7:54). Depending upon the nature of one’s heart the out pouring thereof will either be good or evil. Jesus said, "Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man." (Matthew 15:17-20 NKJV) He said on another occasion, "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. (Matthew 12:35 NKJV).

To be pure in heart carries the thought of unadulterated or undefiled. Thus we might we might say, "Blessed is the person whose emotions, choices, thoughts, and conscience are unadulterated and undefiled." It is only this person who will "see" God. To "see" God is to enjoy Him, to enjoy His presence. Jesus said to Nicodemas, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3 NKJV).

The psalmist penned, "Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully." (Psalms 24:3-4 NKJV).

Blessed are the pure in heart...
