Do you dress for success in your life? To be successful in most all aspects of life, proper dress is essential. Likely a bank president who went to work dressed like a lifeguard would not be successful. Neither would the woman who attempted to clean her home dressed in her wedding gown. In order to facilitate success, one must dress appropriately for the situation.

Believers in Jesus Christ must also dress appropriately to be successful in their spiritual lives. There is a verb translated "put on" in the New Testament which literally means "to clothe oneself." God reveals through His word how to dress for success in our spiritual lives?

To dress for spiritual success believers must clothe themselves with Christ. The apostle Paul wrote, "For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ" (Galatians 3:26,27). Those who profess faith in Christ clothe themselves with Christ when they are baptized into a relationship with Him.

To dress for spiritual success believers must put off the characteristics and attitudes of the old man of sin and clothe themselves with the characteristics and attitudes of the new man of God. They "must put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another,.... But above all these things put on love which is the bond of perfection" (Colossians 3:12-14). To be spiritually successful one must clothe themselves with new characteristics and attitudes.

To dress for spiritual success believers must clothe themselves with God's armor. They must gird their waists with truth, put on the breastplate of righteousness, shod their feet with the gospel of peace, take up the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit, and prayer (Ephesians 6:10-20). They were to clothe themselves with this armor in order that they would be "able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand" (Ephesians 6:13).

To be successful in their spiritual life followers of Jesus Christ must clothe themselves appropriately. Believers must be clothed with Christ, with the characteristics and attitudes of the man of God, and with the whole armor of God. It is our prayer that in your spiritual life you have dressed for success.
